Rsocks Overview

We are in the business of reviewing proxy providers and their proxies. We have reviewed a good number of proxies ranging from Luminati, Smartproxy, GeoSurf, and Oxylabs, among others. In this article, the focus will be on Rsocks. If you have been visiting Internet marketing forums like Black Hat World, you must have come across people talking about Rsocks.

Some reviewers will tell you they are undetectable and unblockable. But are they telling the truth? Maybe in their case. You’re going to find out this and many more in this article. Let take a look at a brief overview of Rsocks Proxies.

Rsocks started out as a datacenter proxy provider in 2016 but has now diversified into the provision of residential proxy service. It is important I state here that the review is based on their residential proxies in this article. Their proxies are unmetered as you are given access to an unlimited connection. They perform decently in terms of web scraping with some connection errors, and the speed is also quite acceptable. Interestingly, their pricing is flexible and cheap.

You’ll also love their live chat support feature as they respond as swiftly as possible. However, you have to deal with some problems associated with them, too – that will also be discussed later on in the article.

Rsocks Pros

Under this section, the good sides of Rsocks will be discussed, and they are the reasons you’ll want to use their proxies.

Flexibility and Affordability of their Pricing

Rsocks pricing model is one of the best in the residential market. One, because it is not based on bandwidth and because it is flexible and affordable. Their pricing model is based on IP, and as such, you are allowed to use an unlimited amount of bandwidth. This is in contrast to other providers that their proxies are based on bandwidth and are metered. Interestingly, you are also allowed to have a good number of concurrent connections.

Their prices are quite low and flexible, and their payment is not only on monthly basis. You can pay daily and weekly. One thing you’ll also come to love about their pricing is the fact that they have varieties you can choose from. Most providers have less than 7 plans you can subscribe to. But for Rsocks, you have option of over 20 plans you can choose from.

Rsocks pricing model

To give you an example of what their pricing looks like, their normal US plan has about 1500 proxies online and will cost you $30 for a day, $150 for a week, and $600 for a monthly subscription. While this is affordable, you’ll agree with me that it can also be argued as expensive for people with a very thin pocket.

Their Residential Proxies are Classified

There’s something unique about Rsocks residential proxies – they are classified. If you want to use residential proxies from them, you can either choose to use their residential IPs that you’ll have to share with other users (just like it is in most residential proxy providers) or choose their exclusive plan and they will dedicate some set of residential IPs for you to use.

Rsocks classified residential proxies

While their residential proxies get the work done, their exclusive proxies are of high quality, and you enjoy more reliability and stability since it’s you alone that make use of it. However, because you will enjoy more quality in their exclusive plan, expect to pay more for it.

Decent Scraping Performance

Web scraping and crawling are some of the most popular uses of residential proxies. Just as we subject other residential proxies to our scraping performance test, we did the same to Rsocks. I must say, even though the performance was not breaking any record and certainly cannot be said to be among the top proxies for web scraping, they are quite functional. We sent 300 concurrent connections to 10 popular websites that cut across search engines, social media sites, and shopping sites. The result of the performance test is displayed in the table below.

Rsocks Scaping Performance Details

Performance on 300 Concurrent connections
Test Success Rate (%) Error (%) TimeOut (%) Block (%)
Amazon 88 0 2 10
Adidas 77 4 9 20
Booking 85 3 5 17
Bing.com 74 6 7 13
Craigslist 75 10 5 10
Instagram 80 2 7 11
Nike 70 0 10 20
Linkedin 82 2 0 16
Google 65 2 3 30
Youtube 72 1 4 23
76.8

With a success rate of 76 percent, you’ll agree with me that Rsocks surpasses expectations. It might interest you to know that the connection errors experience were not denial of service or forbidden. With a good captchas solver, they will be reduced drastically.

Acceptable Proxy Speed

Response Time

How many minutes will it take a request sent through Rsocks proxies to get through and a response received? To find this out, we had to subject their proxies to our test. Certainly not the best out there – and certainly not the worse out there. In fact, the result was not just acceptable but quite good, considering the fact that they are residential IP addresses.

Rsocks Response Time Test Details

Average Response Time (s): 5.456

From the chart and table above, you can see that the response time isn’t breaking any record. But they are fast enough can be said to be acceptable.

Proxy Connection Speed

The response time is different from the connection speed. What size of data is transmitted per unit time? That’s what this section is all about. Rsocks performs decently in this regard even though it goes contrary to what’s stated on their website – they are the fastest!

  • Average Ping: 86ms
  • Average Download: 29.46 Mbps
  • Average Upload: 25.32 Mbps

Good Customer Support

This company got it right in the aspect of customer support. Even quite better than the big players in the industry with a huge customer base. Like I stated at the beginning of the article, we have reviewed other proxy providers. Take this from me as an honest reviewer; only a few companies can match the good customer service provided by Rsocks. You can contact them using email, which they respond in a few hours. They have an excellent FAQ page that answers common questions their customers ask them.

Rsocks support

One other thing I find interesting about their customer support is their live chat service. I was marveled at the response time – it was swiftly. I needed to test how fast they respond to their chat. Good a thing, one of their customer agents was online then, and I initiated a chat. Look at the screenshot above, that’s how fast they respond – within 3 minutes.

Easy to Use

One area you’ll also come to love Rsocks is their dashboard and integrating their proxies into your system. Their dashboard is clean, easy on the eye, and keep things as simple as possible. This then means that getting stranded along the way is a rare occurrence. This, coupled with the fact that you are assigned an account manager, makes things easier for you.

Rsocks Cons

Do not be tempted to buy proxies from them because of what you read above, finish up this section first and you also have to be aware of the bad sides before pitching your tent with them.

No Session Control Feature

I used the word acceptable for a reason – their session control feature is not one of the best. But it is acceptable. This is because Rsocks residential proxies are rotating proxies, and they change by themselves after every 5 minutes.

This then means that unlike in other providers that they have high rotating proxies that change per request, it is your duty to do that on your own. If you need a completely done for you IP rotation system, I recommend Luminati. But Rsocks 5 minutes is still OK for web scraping tasks.

Limited Location Coverage and Not So Huge IP Pool

The number one flaw I find personally displeasing is their location coverage. When it comes to their shared datacenter proxies, they have servers in most countries in the world. However, when it comes to their residential proxies (the ones being reviewed in this article), they have fewer options available. In fact, they are trying to be cryptic about it.

From information on their dashboard, only 5 countries are available – the United States, Russia, China, Vietnam, and Europe based proxies. Because there are fewer options available, geo-targeting is highly limited. In fact, choosing country-specific proxies is as far as you can go. They do not have support for city proxies and do not have support for geo-targeting based on ASN.

Their residential IP pool is not as huge as other popular residential providers. They have about 150,000 residential IPs in their pool. While one will argue that this number enough for many proxies usage cases, in an industry where other providers are having over a million proxies with some having over 30 million in their pool, 150,000 is a small number. Besides, proxies get blocked and refresh every time. Rsocks will be slightly inefficient in this regard because their pool is not huge enough.

Free Trial and Refund Policy Seems Too Strict

The residential proxy market is not a friendly one as far as free trials, and refund policy is concerned. That’s notwithstanding, it is better not to provide at all than to provide one that’s so small that people finish it without even getting to know if they are OK with the experience. For a free trial, you need to contact support and the period given is small.

refund policy

For their refund policy, the rule here is varied, and either way, it is not in favor of their customers. In some plans, they do not offer a refund. In others, they do if you contact support within 24 hours. In some, you are only eligible for refund if you spend no more than 20mb and report to support within 24 hours of activating the plan.

Do I Recommend Rsocks?

All products come with their strengths and weaknesses, and Rsocks proxies are no different. However, despite having flaws, you can still stick to a product because what you stand to gain is more than the bad aspects. In this regard, I recommend Rsocks; their proxies are functional and come with the speed that can be termed as acceptable. Their pricing is flexible, and they have good customer support.
