Proxyrack Review

Are you looking to buy residential proxies from Proxyrack? Then I would advise you to read our Ptoxyrack review before making a purchase decision. We would be discussing both the pros and cons of Proxyrack in the article below.

Proxyrack was started in 2016 with just their unmetered residential proxies. However, it has grown and added support for more proxy types, increased its pool, and has gathered a good number of customers over the years to over 100K users.

Currently, it handles over one billion successful web requests, and according to it — it powers some of the newest and most innovative companies in the world. It claims to be fast, undetectable and provides you with a large pool of IPs. But how do all of these words translate to real-world usage of their proxies?

Proxyrack Overview

As with every other proxy service in the market, there is always a bit of hype even if they are telling the truth. My work as a proxy reviewer is to uncover the truth and separate the facts from the hype.

In this Proxyrack review, I will provide you with all of the details you need to make an informed purchase decision, including the proxy types they offer and their use case, performance test results such as speed, IP duplicate rate, proxy success rate, and a host of other details. In-between, you will discover the pros and cons of this service and I will give my final verdict and good alternatives for specific use cases.

Proxy Types

This provider first started with unmetered residential proxies. However, they didn’t stop there, Proxyrack has now added support for premium residential proxies, rotating and static datacenter proxies. Let’s take a look at each of these.

Private Unmetered Residential Proxies

This is a name they coined for what is known as unlimited residential proxies. And I must say nothing warrants the use of the word private in it. This is an unconventional rotating residential proxy as it does allow you to consume unlimited bandwidth.

However, there is a limit to the number of ports you have which forms the basis for its pricing. IP rotation for each of the ports is after every hour. This means even though it rotates IPs, instead, you can use it for managing your multiple accounts on social media and even e-commerce platforms.

Private Unmetered Residential Proxies with Proxyrack

In terms of pricing, the Private Unmetered Residential Proxies are expensive compared to regular residential proxies. It starts from $65.95 for 5 ports ($13.19 per port) — each port is a different proxy endpoint. But no static IP is assigned to the ports. New IPs are assigned to each port for one hour before changing them, making this a sticky port proxy offering.

Buying more ports will make the cost per port cheaper. Looking at the pricing, you can tell these proxies are meant for mid-scale marketers looking to purchase proxies for account management as these are sticky port proxies.

On their website, they gave the impression that these can be used for web scraping. In reality, they are inefficient for that and only those that do exactly the requirement for their web scraping projects and can match them with this offering should use it. Others can focus on their regular residential proxies.

Premium Residential Proxies

Again, there is nothing premium here, they are the regular rotating residential proxies that are meant to change IP after every request. Even on their website, that is what they claimed. But as you will come to find out later, IPs are not switched for you after every request and you might end up getting assigned IPs already assigned to you.

This is not an issue though, except when your project is large. However, it also does have support for sticky ports for maintaining sessions for a while — but not as long as what is obtainable from their private unmetered residential proxies.

There are over 5 million residential IPs in their pool that can be assigned to you. In reality, the number is smaller. For this, you have the option to choose the specific country you need IPs for using their geo-targeting option.

While the features can’t be said to be competitive with the top proxy provider as it has a smaller proxy, fewer location support, and even a little less performant, it is incredibly cheap. These proxies are best used for web scraping. They are undetectable to most e-commerce platforms and social media sites.

Premium Residential Proxies with Proxyrack

Pricing starts from $49.95 for 10GB for $5 per GB. What makes me regard them as cheap is the $5 per GB. But $49.95 as the starting price is already saying their service is for mid-scale users. This is because most top providers including Bright Data allow users to purchase 1GB at $10.

Rotating Datacenter Proxies

One of the other proxy types offered by Proxyrack is rotating datacenter proxies. These types of proxies are not common as what is more common is their static counterparts for datacenter proxies. Being that as it may, these proxies are quite useful for tasks that require you to switch IPs frequently as in the case of web scraping but don’t have stringent proxy requirements enough to warrant the use of residential proxies. You can scrape most smaller websites not owned by the big corps using these proxies.

Rotating Datacenter Proxies with Proxyrack

The pool is quite small as there are about 20K IPs in it. You have the option of going for their global rotating datacenter proxies or that of the US. If you go for that of the US, the number of IPs available to you shrinks to 10K IPs. Pricing for this is charged based on threads and you can also enjoy unmated bandwidths. The price starts from $75 for 100 threads at a thread cost of $0.75.

US Static Datacenter Proxies

These are the regular datacenter proxies that offer you static IP addresses. They are especially useful for tasks that require high speed. However, they will only work if the website of target is not hard on proxies.

This is because datacenter proxies are identified as hosting IPs and can be detected easily. The plus for these is its affordability. As you can see from the screenshot I took from their website, the cost per IP is $0.50. however, you will need to buy 100 proxies, putting the cost at $50 minimum.

US Static Datacenter Proxies with Proxyrack

If there is one takeaway from the way the pricing for all of their plan is structured, you can tell Proxyrack is not here for the real small proxy users. You need a minimum of $65.95 to get started with their unmetered residential proxies, $50 for their metered residential proxies, $75 for their rotating datacenter proxies, and $50 for their static datacenter proxies.

This tells you they target small proxy users at the higher end of the spectrum to mid-scale users. If you are a small proxy user, you are better off using one of the alternatives I mentioned at the end of the article.

Residential Proxy Features

Enough of discussing all of their proxy offerings. Our attention in this article will now focus on their residential proxies. Let's start by taking a look at some of their unique features below.

Rotating & Sticky IPs

If there is one thing Proxyrack got right, I will say is in how they were able to provide both rotating and session proxies. For their unmetered residential proxies, each port assigned to you will get its IP changed to a different one after one hour. Within this one hour, you have a sticky port to use for your session management tasks.

For their rotating residential proxies, you get the best of both worlds. This is because you can rotate IP after every request and also maintain the same IP and by extension, session for a short period of time — shorter than their unmetered residential proxies. This means you can use their proxies both for high IP rotating tasks, as well as managing accounts.

Big Enough & Good Location Support for Small Projects

Proxyrack has a pool of IP addresses with over 5 million IP addresses. This put it within the same class as Proxy-cheap, Hydraproxy, and Froxy, among other small pool providers. For small to mid-scale projects, I can say this number of IP addresses will work — but the same can’t be said for large-scale projects.

In terms of location coverage, there are over 140 countries captured in the list of supported countries. However, in reality, you can’t use the geo-targeting feature to use IPs specifically for each of these countries. This is because except a country is popular in their pool, there would be fewer IPs for you to use and that will ruin the IP rotation experience.

Private Unmetered Residential Proxies

This is one of the unique offerings and features of this service. For these proxies, you don't get charged based on bandwidth, you get charged based on the number of ports — and you are allowed to enjoy unlimited bandwidth usage. However, it is not good for all tasks.

This is because each of the ports gets a static IP for an hour before getting a new one. Even though the makers will want you to believe you can use this for web scraping, you shouldn’t. I recommend you only use these for account management and other tasks that require you to maintain sessions.

All Package Trial Option

To be frank with you, if you visit the Proxyrack website without attention to detail, you will get confused with their proxy offerings — and I am sure they are aware of this. Instead of making their website as easy to use and their offering as easy to understand as possible, they offer a “try all our proxies” feature. With this, you will pay $13.95 and use all of their proxies for a week. They expect you to know the right one for your project after this.

Residential Proxy Performance

Now to the main sauce of this article. In this section, I will reveal to you, the test reveals of the performance tests I carried out to ascertain how well their proxies perform. And as I said earlier, the focus is on their residential proxies. I use their premium residential proxies since our performance tests are focused on web scraping.

Proxy IP Geo Test

The moment I saw that Proxyrack only has over 5 million IP addresses in its pool, I lost all hopes of location support, especially for web scraping tasks. But I need to dig deeper. Looking at the content on its website, it claims to support 140 countries.

And there is a page where it provides the list of countries you can get IPs from. This webpage is accessible via this URL (https://www.proxyrack.com/premium-countries/). However, from this page, you will see that they claim this list is not real-time but they update it regularly.

Proxy IP Geo Test for Proxyrack

For the top providers proud of their location support, you get the number of IPs for their top locations. But Proxyrack provided none and as you will find out from their website, they are not really proud of their country-level pool sizes and the best thing is not to show them off.

The only country I can be sure they have a sizeable IP for is the United States as that is the only country they seem to be proud to discuss. Even that, we can’t tell the number of IPs from the US. If you have any other country in mind, you should speak to their customer agent to know the number of IPs they have at that given time before you proceed to payment.

Proxy Success Rate Test

Out of 100 requests you send with Proxyrack residential proxies, how many will be successful, and how many will fail? I tested this and the result form the proxy success rate test. To test this, I set up a VPS in Los Angeles and sent 300 concurrent requests to popular websites such as Amazon, Google, Booking, Instagram, YouTube, Craigslist, Nike, Adidas, and a few others. The goal is to see how it performs when concurrent requests are sent — some kind of a stress test, it is. Below is the result of the test.

Proxy Success Rate Test with Proxyrack

Average success rate: 72.9%

The average success rate is 72.9%. This means for every 100 requests you send, only about 73 will succeed, the other 27 will fail for various reasons either because of blocks, requests taking too long, or dropped connections, among others. As you can see, Nike is the worst you should use their proxies on, focused on Adidas, Google, LinkedIn, and LinkedIn.

Generally, these targets are some of the toughest on the Internet, if your target is not tough, then you will have a much higher success rate. If your target is a tough target, then I won’t recommend using Proxyrack as 27% failure is high. Instead, I will recommend the likes of Soax, Bright Data, or Smartproxy. You can check the end of this review for alternatives.

Response Time Test

Speed is one thing you will have to compromise on when using proxies. But when a proxy service is too slow, it becomes an issue. I tested the performance of Proxyrack and other providers’ residential proxies to see how soon they respond to requests. The goal is to see how it performs compared to the other providers. Below is the result of the response time measured in ms.

Response Time Test with Proxyrack

As you can see above, Proxyrack is nowhere near the top of the list of fastest proxies in terms of response time. Instead, it is closer to the bottom as it is faster than only Infatica and Froxy. The average response time for Proxyrack residential proxies is 3.48 seconds.

Compared to the fastest which is Bright Data at 0.48 seconds, you can tell that Proxyrack responds at a snail speed and I wouldn’t recommend them to you if you need a fast proxy service to use. Proxyrack is quite slow and not the kind of proxy to be used for a project where speed is important.

Unique IP Test

When web scraping, you need a proxy provider that will switch IP for you after every request — or something close to that. And most providers claim to do that, including Proxyrack. But does Proxyrack live up to that or this is just a marketing gimmick?

To find out the fact, we sent 500K requests without using any geo-filter or even any filter at all. This is so we can have access to the whole pool. Below is the result of the unique IP test carried out, compared to some of the popular providers out there, too.

IP Duplication Rate by Proxy Providers

The graph above makes it easier for us to see what is going on. And again, the result for Proxyrack is not impressive at all. It came 3rd but from the back. From the test carried out, about 73% of requests were assigned IPs already assigned to us. This means only 27% of the requests had unique IPs assigned to them. With this, you can tell how bad the result will be if you use its geo-targeting feature.

However, you need to know that this does not make it entirely bad for web scraping. If you have a small or mid-scale web scraping project, you can use it, but this can’t be used for large-scale projects. And even if your project is a small-scale project, I recommend you don’t use the geo-targeting feature —except if the US is your target.

How to Use Proxyrack

The Proxyrack service provides you with a user dashboard from which you can purchase proxies and get your proxy details to be used. First, the user interface of this dashboard is easy to use. Being a paid service you will need to pay for their proxies. From the Active Product tab, you can access your proxy details.

The details required in other to use the proxies include proxy address, port, username, and password. In the user dashboard, it is not named password but API Key. It is the copied details you use for setting up proxies in your chosen client.

Remember, it is a rotating proxy and as such, you get only one endpoint. If you need to make use of the geo-targeting feature or configure IP rotation time, you need to do that first from the dashboard before copying the proxy details.

Source of IPs

The IPs in the Proxyrack service are not owned by them — especially their residential proxy pool. So what is the source of their IP addresses then? It is a known fact that residential proxy providers like Proxyrack get their IPs via P2P networks. However, unlike most providers that are not open on the source of their IPs, Proxyrack makes it clear how it earns its IPs.

In fact, if you check this page https://www.proxyrack.com/become-a-peer/, you will see how you can share your Internet bandwidth and earn from that. What this means is that if you join, your device IP address will become one of the IPs their customers' requests are routed through – and you get paid to do that.

Customer Support

I have mixed feelings and impressions as far as their customer support is. First, let me mention the good aspect. The service has a live chat support feature which I have used. When you click on the icon, you don’t first speak to a human, you chat with a bot. I had to refuse to speak to the bot before it recommended it would route me to a user on WhatsApp which I asked why.

However, I got a response from a real user within 5 minutes. So, if there is a user only, the experience is better — for now, the bot is actually clueless.

Customer Support for Proxyrack

While my experience with their live chat support was swift even though not really great from the user experience perspective, the email support was slower. You will have to wait hours before getting a response from them which is also not at par with what is obtainable from the top providers in the market.

Do We Recommend Proxyrack

The idea of unlimited residential proxies you can consume unlimited bandwidth with is a noble one. While the average success rate is 72%, this is so because we sent 300 concurrent requests, if you use it without sending too many concurrent requests, the success rate will be higher. However, I do have a concern with the IP duplicate rate which is bad and the response time is terrible.

Unfortunately, the providers on top of all of these price their proxy packages to be out of the reach of small proxy users.  And I can’t recommend them to big proxy users because of the performance issues. The only users that can benefit from their usage are mid-scale proxy users.

Alternatives to Proxyrack

If Proxyrack does not meet your requirements, you make a choice from one of the alternatives mentioned below.

SmartproxyRecommended for better performance.

Smartproxy as a Proxyrack Alternatives

Unlike Proxyrack which is below average in terms of performance, Smartproxy is one of the fastest, offers one of the best unique IP rates in the market, and gives you better control over your session and geo-location targeting. It also has a larger pool. Interestingly, it is cheaper and you can get started with just $8 per GB.

Bright Data – Recommended for larger IPs for various tasks.

Bright Data as a Proxyrack Alternatives

This service has over 72 million IPs and offers the highest success rate, more unique IPs, and faster response time. It is our recommended residential proxy and can be used for various tasks as it supports both high-rotating proxies as well as session proxies.

Soax – Recommended for better after-sale service.

Soax as a Proxyrack Alternatives

If what you need is a service that will give you the best customer support and guidance even after paying for the proxies, then Soax is the best. This service has the cleanest residential proxy pool which makes its success rate high. However, unlike Smartproxy and Bright Data, it minimum monetary commitment is expensive for small proxy users.

Proxy-Cheap

Proxy-Cheap as a Proxyrack Alternatives

Proxy-cheap has almost the same IP pool size (5 million) as Proxyrack, however, you get better value for your money as it has a higher success rate, offers more unique IPs, and gives you better control over your sessions than Proxy-cheap. It is also a cheaper provider, too and good for small proxy users.
